Buz was a bricoleur who collected a trove of objects. These objects lost their potential and purpose after his death in 2014.
The Compendium of Buz is a curation of these objects, which I recorded over time, as they disintegrated. The process of drawing as a result of mechanical observation allowed me to examine Buz’ creations as an auto-ethnographer; finding epistemic qualities in the objects over an extended period of time, which in turn has enabled me to begin to address my loss.
The narratives running alongside the images are sometimes autobiographical and sometimes fictional. I have also included the writing of poets and authors that have moved or affected me during the period since Buz died. His writing and his voice are intrinsic in this narrative. His words provide the structure for this Compendium and his vision has been present for me throughout the compilation.
This Compendium is a monumentalization of Buz: static and permanent, but it is also an acknowledgment of flux; the temporality of existence and the absolute reality of degeneration over time. It is also about imagination, magic, sickness, loss, love.
